The Big Help Out 2024 has now come to an end, but don’t worry, we will back in 2025!
Almost 6.5 million people across the UK participated in The Big Help Out on the weekend from the 7th – 9th of June 2024. From litter picks, planting, making gifts for veterans, family fun days, and painting lidos, we saw the UK come out to lend a hand! Together with your vital support, we’ve inspired millions of volunteers across the UK to get out this weekend to lend a hand.
Are you a school or a teacher?
This year, The Big Help Out started on Friday, June 7th, allowing schools across the UK to lend a hand! We ask schools and teachers to use the Big Help Out to educate and engage your students in volunteering. We have dedicated school resources for you here
On this page a few different ways to get people involved with volunteering.
Host a volunteering taster session
Host a taster session for local people who are interested in learning more about what you do, and how they could get involved. Promote it in your area, post it on your website, or through your usual communication channels.

Use a volunteering platform
As the Big Help Out 2024 is now finished, The Big Help Out Platform is therefore now closed. There are however many volunteering platforms you can use; they are a great way to get your organisation in front of new volunteers!
Maximise your usual volunteer recruitment methods
The BHO Platform was just one way to recruit volunteers, there are plenty of ways to activate your networks. You could:
- Upload opportunities to your own website
- Create a Facebook event, invite your followers, and share the event with any local groups
- Use word of mouth, asking your volunteers, friends, family and networks to spread the word

Promote across digital channels
Use social media or your newsletters to shout about The Big Help Out. Build it into your regular messaging and explain why volunteering is so important and how it benefits your organisation. Tag us #TheBigHelpOut, so we can cross promote it!
Get Printing!
Why not design and print off a poster with your Big Help Out volunteering opportunities and stick in pride of place, in any local stores, offices and other places that welcome advertisements. Use any of the Big Help Out editable resources you can amend or print out as
it is.
Feel free to use our logo and branding to print other suitable merchandise to help reach out to your target audience.
Organisation FAQs
No, you don’t need to host an event! While events are brilliant to give volunteers a great experience working with your voluntary organisation and getting to know your mission, that’s not all you can do! We highly recommend taster sessions, real-time volunteering and/or any other engaging ideas.
Yes, as your BHO Platform login details also provide access to the DoIt platform, you can continue to use it for free and all your information is still there. Any opportunities you uploaded to the BHO App will no longer be published, but if you speak to DoIt there are ways to push them across the DoIt platform (for free).
The Big Help Out Platform was our advertising, recruitment and management tool you as an organisation can use to upload volunteering opportunities and find new volunteers as part of the campaign. The Big Help Out Platform was available to organisations until the end of August 2024, and even though the BHO Platform us now closed, you can still access your information on the DoIt platform with the same login details.
Yes, absolutely – the Big Help Out will return in 2025! You can register your interest here to be one of the first to hear about it when we have further information.
Yes absolutely! You can use the ‘bulk upload self serve’ available within the BHO Platform itself. This will allow you to upload a large number of opportunities at once, whether they are at particular locations, or across region(s)/ nation(s).

As The Big Help Out 2024 has ended, the BHO platform ’24 has now closed. However, you can continue to login to the DoIt platform to access your information.
